UW MFA, MDes 2019 exhibit at Henry Art Gallery

This is the thesis work of our graduate
students in our master of design program and our master of fine arts program in the
school of art, art history and design. The range of work can be anything from a
small drawing to a large-scale installation. It’s a really large mix of
sculpture students, painters, we have designers. This year’s exhibition, almost
all the students just seem very very aware of how they’re presenting their
work in the space that they were selected to use. They’re really trying to
figure out a way to communicate ideas that they’re very passionate about and a visual format. So as you walk through the exhibition almost all the
work in here is really very clearly related to some of the social concerns
that we all share and that we’re all living with. Some of them will go on to showing
galleries and museums. Some will become professional designers. Some will
probably work for themselves. Maybe some will be professors. It’s such a great range. I hope that it’s a valuable experience for the students, learning how to not
only display their work but also navigate the ins and outs of exhibiting
in a museum. I think it’s a beautiful show.
